Managing From Your Eulogy Back
Morbid, eh? Is there a better benchmark? I
have been praising the benefits of this for a long time (you should
see some of the looks I've gotten when I suggest this). So long
that I can't remember if I made it up (probably not) or heard a
wise man say it (odds are).
Do this exercise- but not too often I don't
want you to turn into a funeral director. Sit quietly in a chair
and close your eyes. Picture your funeral. Focus on the details-
who's there, who's not, where it is, how do the flowers smell, you
get the picture. Now think about who would give your eulogy. Think
in detail about what they would say. "Joe was a good sort,
he worked 12 hours a day and only went to prison once"…….
The point is- are you doing what you will
one day look back on with pride? Are you in a career you love?
Are you contributing to society? Are you living up to your
youthful expectations? If you died today what regrets would
you have?
Remember how you acted before your last class
reunion? Did you diet and workout like crazy so that you could show
old so and so how well preserved you are? Did you create stories
that were a little embellished? Did you take action that led to
change or simply short-term fixes?
Rent the movie "The Big Chill".
It seems to stir something in me (besides the music is great). Would
your friends celebrate having shared the blessings of your friendship?
Think of what you could accomplish it you
made just one positive change a month. What is stopping you?
Life is short and regrets aren't fun- act now!
May your eulogy be long in coming!
Carpe Diem!
